Vuurduin

Vuurduin Lighthouse is located on the Dutch island of Vlieland in the Netherlands. The lighthouse was first built in 1836, but the current structure was lit in 1909. It is a cylindrical tower made of cast iron with a balcony and lantern, standing at a height of 16.8 meters and a focal height of 54 meters. The tower is red with a white lantern and has an intensity of 1,000,000 cd, with a range of 20 nautical miles.

The lighthouse was originally the front light of the leading lights in IJmuiden and was designed by Quirinus Harder. It was placed on Vlieland in 1909, on top of one of the highest sand dunes in the Netherlands, the Vuurboetsduin. Over the years, the lighthouse has undergone changes, including the addition of a lookout tower in 1929 and the renovation of the cupola in 1986.

The Vuurduin Lighthouse is fully automated, but a lighthouse keeper still attends to it. The lighthouse has an interesting history, having been part of the leading lights in IJmuiden before being moved to Vlieland. Today, it remains an important aid to navigation and a notable landmark on the island. With its unique design and rich history, the Vuurduin Lighthouse is a significant part of the Netherlands' maritime heritage.
