Chetwai Lighthouse

The Chetwai Lighthouse is situated in Chettuva, near Guruvayur in the Thrissur District of Kerala, India. It was inaugurated on 29 September 1986 and is a 30-meter tall concrete structure with a cylindrical tower featuring a double balcony and lantern. The lighthouse has a distinctive white and red horizontal band pattern and stands at a focal height of 33.8 meters.

The lighthouse was built to provide a guiding light for mariners and its light source is a 500 W Halogen Lamp with a range of 19 nautical miles. The light characteristic is a flashing white light that occurs twice every 20 seconds. The light source was upgraded on 30 April 2003, marking a significant improvement in the lighthouse's functionality.

The Chetwai Lighthouse has a relatively short but interesting history, with no previous lighthouse existing at this location before its construction in 1986. The lighthouse is currently operational and serves as an important aid to navigation for ships and boats in the area. Its presence has likely had a significant impact on the local maritime industry and has helped to ensure the safety of mariners and their vessels.
