Isola Razzoli Lighthouse

The Isola Razzoli Lighthouse is a significant navigational aid located on an islet in the Maddalena archipelago, Sardinia, Italy. The lighthouse stands at 12 meters tall and has a cylindrical shape with a balcony and lantern. Its location on the eastern approach to the Strait of Bonifacio makes it a crucial landmark for marine navigation.

The current lighthouse was built in 1974, replacing an earlier structure that was abandoned in 1969. The new lighthouse features an unpainted stone tower with a white balcony and a grey metallic lantern dome. It is automated and powered by a solar unit, emitting a white or red flash every 2.5 seconds visible up to 19 nautical miles away. The lighthouse is managed by the Marina Militare and is part of the Arcipelago di La Maddalena National Park.

The Isola Razzoli Lighthouse has a rich history, with the first structure built in 1845 and a second one in 1858. The 1858 lighthouse was later abandoned due to its deteriorating condition, and a European Commission grant in 2007 funded a partial renovation of the building. However, much of the work remains to be done. Today, the Isola Razzoli Lighthouse remains an essential aid to navigation in the region, providing a vital service to mariners and ships passing through the Strait of Bonifacio.
