The Punta Filetto Lighthouse is located on the Isola Santa Maria, part of the Maddalena archipelago in Sardinia, Italy. It was built in 1913 and features a masonry quadrangular tower with a balcony and lantern, standing at 12 meters high. The lighthouse is painted white with a grey metallic lantern dome and emits four white flashes every 20 seconds, visible up to 10 nautical miles.
The lighthouse was automated in 1972 and is currently managed by the Marina Militare. It has a interesting history, having hosted a school for the children of lighthouse keepers and shepherds in the 1950s. However, after automation, the building fell into disrepair and was restored by the Arcipelago di La Maddalena National Park in 2006. Despite the restoration, the structure was still covered with scaffolding as of 2009.
Today, the Punta Filetto Lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, powered by a solar unit. Its unique history and architecture make it a notable landmark in the region. The lighthouse is also part of the larger network of lighthouses in Italy, and its story is a testament to the importance of these structures in guiding mariners and supporting local communities.
