Mersin Feneri
Mersin Feneri, also known as the Mersin Lighthouse, is located on the Mediterranean coast in the city of Mersin, Turkey. The lighthouse was first built in 1865 and reconstructed in 1955. It is an octagonal masonry tower with a balcony and lantern, rising from the keeper's house, and is approximately 15 meters tall with a focal height of 16 meters.
The lighthouse is situated within the Mersin urban fabric, near the west of the mouth of the Efrenk River, and is surrounded by walking tracks and restaurants. The harbor lies to the east, about 2 kilometers away from the lighthouse entrance. The dominant wind in the area is from the southwest, making the lighthouse an essential guide for vessels approaching from the west.
The Mersin Lighthouse is currently operated by the Directorate General of Coastal Safety and has a range of visibility of about 15 nautical miles. The light source has been updated over time, from kerosene and acetylene to a halogen lamp, and it flashes three times white every ten seconds. The lighthouse is listed in Turkey under the code TUR-043 and is an important part of the country's maritime history and safety.
