Needham's Point Lighthouse is located on the southwest coast of Barbados, specifically at the southern end of Carlisle Bay. The lighthouse was constructed in 1855 and features an octagonal tower with a balcony and lantern. It was originally built with a white tower and black lantern, but it now has white and red bands.
The lighthouse has undergone some changes over the years. It initially stood at a height of 13 meters and had a focal height of the same. However, the current height is 9 meters with a focal height of 13 meters. The lighthouse has a unique characteristic of flashing at an 8-second interval. It also has a stationary beacon, unlike other lighthouses in Barbados, and its lens was half red and half green to guide sailors.
Needham's Point Lighthouse is currently non-functional and has been partially restored by the Hilton Hotel, which owns the lighthouse and surrounding grounds. The lighthouse is one of four historic lighthouses still existing in Barbados and can be seen from the beach to the south of the hotel. Despite its current status, the lighthouse remains a significant part of Barbados' history and a notable landmark in the area.
