The Puerto del Rosario Lighthouse, also known as the Gaviota Lighthouse, is a modern active lighthouse located in the town of Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands in Spain. Built in 1992, it is the main navigation marker for shipping arriving at the port on the eastern side of the island. The lighthouse has a 43-meter high cylindrical tower with a double balcony and lantern, and is marked with an unpainted tower and a grey lantern dome.
The lighthouse is equipped with a 2.25-meter diameter lens and a 150-watt discharge lamp, connected to mains electricity and a back-up battery system. With a focal height of 48 meters above sea level, the light can be seen for 20 nautical miles. Its light characteristic is a flash of white light every five seconds. The lighthouse is maintained by the port authority of Las Palmas and is registered under the international Admiralty number D2793.5.
The Puerto del Rosario Lighthouse has an interesting history as part of the third maritime lighting plan for the Canaries, which included the construction of several other lighthouses in the region.
