The lighthouse has a cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern, standing at a height of 6 meters, with a focal height of 29 meters. It is made of stone and features a single-story house with dark volcanic rock masonry detailing.
The lighthouse was originally powered by olive oil and later by paraffin and acetylene lamps. In the 1960s, it was automated and now runs on solar power, providing a 150-watt electric halogen lamp with a range of 14 nautical miles. The lighthouse is currently active and is managed by Parque Natural Islote de Lobos. It is one of the three lighthouses that mark the La Bocayna strait, which separates Lanzarote from Fuerteventura.
The Punta Martiño Lighthouse has a rich history, with the original sixth-order light being one of the oldest in the Canaries. The lighthouse has undergone several upgrades and changes over the years, including the addition of a sun valve to save the keeper from having to light and extinguish the lamp each day.
